While the 10th of October was set aside to commemorate World Mental Health Day annually, growing concerns on the alleviation of the crisis still remain. In this podcast, Lubelihle Audrey Mazithulela explores all-things-mental-health with youth activists, storytellers and mental health professionals from around the world. An individual’s willingness to share their lived experiences with others is a powerful tool in fighting the stigma associated with mental health conditions. The guest in this episode is Annet Kavata, a medical student at Aga Khan University in Nairobi, Kenya and the Founding President of Girl Up AKU. Annet's academic journey is intertwined with her passion for the well-being of the youth, gender equity and mental health-especially through the lens of neurodiversity and her lived experience with ADHD.
Through her story, Annet takes us on a journey from her diagnosis, the coping mechanisms she has developed and the challenges she has overcome along the way. By sharing these events as they happened, Annet aims to encourage more youth around the world to be more vocal about their mental health challenges so that they get the support they need.

Men’s mental health is a critical issue that warrants more attention as most men suffer in silence. In most instances, societal norms and the lack of mental health education are the leading causes of this predicament. Leading the discussion in this episode is Vital Maronjese, a final-year Social Work student at the Women's University in Africa with a strong commitment to mental health advocacy.
Currently serving under the Ndinewe Foundation's Men Feel Campaign, Vital works to empower individuals and promote emotional well-being through community engagement and support. With a passion for social justice and a focus on destigmatizing mental health issues, Vital seeks to foster resilience and understanding in communities, advocating for holistic approaches to mental wellness.

Marcia Hove is the current Club President of the GirlUp-United Nations Foundation chapter in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. She is also a registered general nurse and a devoted youth activist who takes pride in making a difference in the lives of others.
